Good Genetics make Great Breeder stock

.

We believe in raising our sheep as naturally as possible, with access to the outdoors and sunshine and grass. By growing good grass, we are raising good healthy animals.

We are diligent about maintaining the health and well-being of our animals.  We are foot-rot free, medicate only when necessary, and have never used growth hormones or steroids.

With the exception of the high quality rams which we periodically purchase, Hopestead Hill Farm has been a “closed” flock for many years. Recent ram bloodlines to improve our flock genetics have included a Tamarack Booroola ram (to boost the prolificacy of our flock) and a Tamarack Dorset ram; several Dorset and Finn-Dorset rams from Cornell University’s Star ewes; and rams from other reputable production oriented flocks.

25 years of genetic selection based on multiple births, aseasonal lambing, and good maternal traits has resulted in a highly productive flock that lambs out of season, thrives on a predominantly grass based program, and raises fast growing lambs.

We retain the only the best genetics from our flock as breeder stock, either for sale or as our own replacements.

We have some lovely ewe lambs  still available for sale from our successful fall lambing cycle. They are growing well in the barn on our second cut baleage, but looking forward to spring grazing.
